1913

 Casino Portorož has the longest gaming tradition in Slovenia, dating back to the year 1913, in the period of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, when the St. Lawrence villa's casino was founded (in the premises of today's Grand Hotel Metropol). Right from the beginning the casino became the venue for important rendezvous; it organised social events, grand balls and various exhibitions and sporting events.

1964

The idea to establish a casino was revived in the 1960s and it became reality in 1964, when the Municipal Assembly of Piran, in accordance with the Tourist Institute of Portorož, adopted the casino's Founding Act. The casino was located in the old Hotel Palace and its aim was to attract as many foreign visitors as possible, since the legislation of that time did not allow local citizens to gamble.

1972

Thanks to the growing interest of foreign visitors, the activity expanded and in 1972 the casino was transferred to its current premises at the Hotel Metropol.

1983

In 1983, in accordance with the Slovenian Tourism and casino development policy, Casino Portorož set up a gaming hall together with the hotelier Hotel Park in Nova Gorica, from which the company HIT developed.

1989

In 1989 Casino Portorož began to develop a casino in Lipica that later became a an independent casino. The casino was inaugurated on the 8 th December 1989, as a gaming devices hall. At the end of June 1989 the premises were enlarged and furnished with gaming tables. Thanks to the continuous influx of visitors, two redevelopments and modernisation of the premises followed - the first in 1991 and the second in 1993. Today's casino is thus the result of the casino ethos of that time.

1990

In 1990 Casino Portorož and Kompas Magistrat opened a casino in Ljubljana.

1992

In 1992 the company Turistično podjetje Portorož, d.o.o. separated the gaming activities and established the company Casino Portorož, d.o.o. On the 15 th July 1998, following an ownership reorganisation, the join-stock company Casino Portorož, d.d. was established.

1994 

In 1994, legal regulations brought the casinos' progress , expansion and modernisation to a standstill and restricted the role that gaming activities were to play in the development of the town and of the region. In 1998, with the reorganisation of the gaming premises, the casino temporarily became an amusement venue.

2001

In December 2001 Grand Casino Lido in Čatež Spa was inaugurated and in July 2003 the Gaming hall - Slot Club Casino Portorož - Žusterna near Koper was opened.
